About

José Ignacio is managing partner of the firm and member of its Business Development Committee. He has over 15 years of experience providing legal and business advice to domestic and foreign clients, actively representing individuals and companies from a wide range of sectors, in multi-million local and cross-border transactions.

Additionally, he serves in the board of directors of several companies, including Aleatica, a public company with a major participation in the Mexican toll-road infrastructure sector; Rappipay México, the financial services arm of Rappi; Crédito Maestro, one of the biggest players in the non-banking payroll credit industry in Mexico; Soluciones Integrales TBY, a non-banking payroll credit company, and  Inmobiliaria La Rumorosa, a Mexican industrial real estate development company. Mr. Rivero has also served in the board of directors of SiSNova, an insurance company, and Resuelve tu Deuda, a pioneer and key player in the Mexican credit repair business with operations in Europe and Latin America.

Experience

  • Counsel to Rappi, one of the largest e-commerce companies worldwide and the first Unicorn in Latin America, in its US$400 million joint venture with Banorte, one of the largest banks in Mexico. Through this joint venture, a new entity that will seek to become the largest electronic bank in Mexico was incorporated
  • Counsel to IFM, an Australian global funds manager, in the US$2.6 billion global acquisition of OHL’s infrastructure concessions division, as well as in the mandatory acquisition tender offer launched in the Mexican Stock Exchange as a result of the global acquisition, for 100% of the public shares of OHL’s Mexican subsidiary. This transaction was bestowed with the “Private Equity Deal of the Year” award by Latin Finance
  • Counsel to Grupo Proeza, a leading international consortium that owns Metalsa, Citrofrut, Astrum, and Areya, in the subscription of a 22% equity interest in Ainda, the manager of the CKD Ainda, as well as in the implementation of an investment trust to be used as the sole co-investor of the CKD Ainda
  • Counsel to Nokia and Huawei, in the structuring of a US$18 billion financing to Altan Redes, the multinational consortium in charge of the design, construction, operation and maintenance of one of the largest telecommunications project in the history of México “Red Compartida”. This transaction was bestowed with the “Best Loan (LATAM)” and “Best Infrastructure Financing: Mexico” awards by LatinFinance
  • Counsel to IFM in its US$1 billion tender offer for, and acquisition of 42% of the public shares of OHL Mexico, one of the most relevant transport infrastructure operators within the metropolitan area of Mexico City
  • Counsel to 5M2, one of the biggest advertising companies in Mexico, in the acquisition of 100% of Grupo Expansión, a leader in business, social, sports, and specialized media in México, from Southern Cross, a major private equity fund
  • Counsel to SixSigma Networks México (KIO Networks) in the US$450 million acquisition of 100% of the capital stock of MetroNet (redIT), positioning KIO Networks as the preeminent infrastructure IT service provider in Mexico and the antitrust clearance thereof, as well as in the issuance of US$500 million high yield senior notes, pursuant to Rule 144A/Reg. S, to finance part of the acquisition
  • Counsel to Metalsa, one of the leading suppliers of structural components for the automotive light vehicle and commercial vehicle markets in North America and Brazil, in its debut US$300 million 144A/Reg.S. offering, as well as in the amendments to the indenture thereto
  • Counsel to Resuelve tu Deuda in its financing with Alloy Merchant Partners, a cross-border financial company with operations in Mexico and the United States, for MXN$360 million for, among others, the refinancing of existing debt, working capital, and the acquisition of its own stock held by Crédito Real
  • Counsel to the shareholders of Resuelve tu Deuda, a Mexican financial restructuring and credit repair business, in the acquisition of a minority stake thereof by Crédito Real and DILA Capital
  • Counsel to the shareholders of Crédito Maestro, one of the largest companies in the growing payroll deduction financing industry in Mexico, in the acquisition by Crédito Real of a significant minority position in Crédito Maestro, as well as in multiple renegotiations of the joint venture documents since the implementation of the acquisition
  • Counsel to Crédito Maestro, as debtor, in the MXP$500 million financing granted by Crédito Real, to be used in working capital and the origination of loans by Crédito Maestro with its clients
